Where the rubber meets the road

I love writing fiction. Most of the time I sit at the screen and the words just come out in response to the ideas that have come into my head. I don’t spend a lot of time reviewing the copy. But in the end, sense has to prevail. A professional edit is required if the book is to stand a chance of being read by an agent, let alone a publisher.

My editor, Louise Buckley, returned my “manuscript” the other day. And I have to say I opened the file with some trepidation. The good news is that it seems to have potential. The not so good news is that it requires quite a lot of work. Six pages of detailed notes. Over 4,500 tracked changes!

I’ve had a quick look at the notes and the changes and found myself nodding my head. This is where the rubber meets the road. Do I just keep the wheels spinning or do I get serious? I have opted for the latter
