An interesting event on April 4th which was very well attended and definitely lived up to its title.
I enjoyed the day. And the session where I was asked to contribute seemed to resonate with the audience. It was well chaired by Danby Bloch, Chairman of Helm Godfrey IFA and entitled “How to scale your advice firm”. The panel comprised Rebecca Aldridge, MD of Balance: Wealth Planning, Jeannie Boyle, Director EQ Investors and myself. Rebecca and Jeannie were very impressive and articulate individuals with high quality and innovative businesses
It was clear that many of the Financial Advisers present were interested in organic growth and potentially acquiring, merging or being acquired. All were very much aware of the risks inherent in these strategies and I sensed that “If it’s not broken don’t try and fix it” might be a view held by many. And that is entirely understandable.
The mood in the event was pretty positive although the huge increase in the FSCF compensation cap was of considerable concern; not least the reaction of PI insurers. It strikes me that the DB to DC transfer gravy train mayl now hit the buffers for many players
